The Lions of Alahan

The Kingdom of the Lion was the first real human civilisation to be established on the continent of Aarklash. While the Kelts were still leading a semi-nomadic existence and worshipping ancient divinities some Kelt tribes migrated to the fertile lands in the south and settled there. Soon these settler tribes had to unite to face the first manifestations of the dark powers. From this unity in the face of adversity was born the Kingdom of the Lion.

Throughout time the Warriors of the Lion have sworn to uphold the light, fight bravely against the forces of evil and protect the land. Even though the Lions of Alahan have long since been removed from their Kelt ancestors they still hold to some of the same druidic beliefs.Anywhere that Darkness tries to spread its hold, it will be met by the unflinching will, bravery and tenacity of the armies of the Lion of Alahan.

The Lions are stalwart warriors, the protectors of justice and light. Alahan is a civilised nation with beautiful cities full of artistry, peaceful gardens, libraries and bazaars. Alahan is a relatively peaceful nation, preferring the justice of the courts to the law of the wild, however, Alahan is surrounded by the forces of Darkness and the people of Alahan know they have to stand against the darkness for the light to prevail. Housed within the magnificent buildings of Alahan are an array of warrior schools, army training barracks and elite schools of swordsmanship. Alahan has a well trained and disciplined standing army along with some of the best swordsmen in the known world.

The Lions of Alahan in Confrontation

The Lions of Alahan are a modern army, highly efficient and strategically brilliant. They are one of the only factions to use Cavalry and their armies are based on highly disciplined troops, fast moving formations and lethal swordsmanship. In battle the Lions use their fast moving cavalry to deliver highly destructive charges driving a wedge into the enemy forces that the infantry can exploit.

Whilst the Lions don't have a lot of dramatic special abilities like many factions, such as the Mutagenics of the Dirz, they do have some useful abilities that support the way they play. All Lions have the 'bravery' ability, which isn't the most spectacular ability in the world, but it reflects their tenacity in facing fear-causing creatures of darkness. Basically it provides a far better chance of passing courage tests.

However with the low points costs of Lions troops you can field a lot of reasonable warriors without using too many points at all. These should always form the core of you army, they will stand and fight any foe to the death and normally hold their ground especially with the numbers you can put out.

Where the Lions excel is with their special troops and cavalry. The Lions of Alahan have "proper" cavalry - knights on armoured warhorse. They are a truly spectacular unit on the battlefield and do vast amounts of damage. They are traditional cavalry in the way that they can inflict numerous casualties with their armoured charge. The charge of the armoured cavalry is lethal in most games and Confrontation is no exception. The Knights of the Lion inflict damage of strength 15 when charging and gain an additional attack dice through their 'brutish charge' ability. The Knights are also immune to all fear, can inflict 'master strikes' like characters, have a movement of 20cms and truly superb stats - especially resilience. All in all this makes them nigh on impossible to stop, lethal when charging and very hard to kill. Not a bad choice!

If you are looking for a visually spectacular fantasy army with lots of lethal cavalry and good basic troops, not too much ranged weaponry, some useful skills and overall stability the Lions of Alahan could be for you.
